Co Down hotel named ‘best in NI’ at top hospitality awards

“These recognitions motivate us to continue raising standards”

A Co Down hotel has been named ‘Hotel of the Year’ for Northern Ireland at the AA Hospitality Awards 2025.

The AA Hospitality Awards are considered one of the industry’s most prestigious accolades, highlighting creativity, commitment and excellence that define the UK’s hotels, restaurants, inns, and B&Bs.

AA star ratings are awarded following anonymous, overnight inspections carried out by professional inspectors and hotels are assessed on the quality of their service, facilities, food, and overall guest experience, against detailed criteria.

The Old Inn, Crawfordsburn, has been named the best place to stay in Northern Ireland this year, taking the top spot from Derry’s Ebrington Hotel which won in 2024.

Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media said: “This celebration highlights the passion, creativity and resilience that define UK hospitality. The teams have turned challenges into opportunities, inspiring us with their innovation and dedication.

“Congratulations to all winners, nominees and new Rosette holders – your achievements deserve recognition today and set a shining example for the future of our industry.”

This was not the only achievement for Galgorm Collection, who own The Old Inn, at last night’s awards as Gillies restaurant at Galgorm earned an AA Rosette, joining Fratelli Galgorm, The Rabbit, and The Old Inn in holding this mark of culinary excellence.

Galgorm also received a AA 5-star status, joining The Fitzwilliam, The Grand Central Hotel, The Merchant and Lough Erne Resort as the other NI hotels with this 5-star listing.

Colin Johnston, CEO of Galgorm Collection, said: “These awards reflect the hard work and professionalism of everyone across Galgorm Collection. Our ongoing investment in product quality, guest experience, employee wellbeing, and sustainability continues to deliver tangible results.

“Our mission is to provide more than a stay – offering guests exceptional hospitality while minimising environmental impact. These recognitions motivate us to continue raising standards.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the entire team across all our properties and restaurants for their hard work and commitment to our guests and the business. The awards reflect their dedication and I am immensely proud of everyone.”
