Highlighting the critical situation visa-a-vis fertiliser supply, Kerala Agriculture Minister has sought immediate intervention of the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers to ensure timely availability during the peak of this Rabi season.

In a letter to Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Kerala Agriculture Minister, P.Prasad pointed out that farmers are facing severe challenges due to the current shortfall in supply and timely availability of fertilisers is crucial to ensure optimal crop productivity.

According to the Movement Supply Plan, the letter said the State has been allocated 43,150 tonne of Urea, 44,900 tonne of MOP and 13,450 tonne of DAP. However, as of today, Kerala has only received 18,164 tonne of Urea, 23,803 tonne of MOP and 888 tonne of DAP, which amounts to just 43 per cent of the required allocation. The shortfall is significantly impacting the ongoing agricultural activities.

The Minister urged the Centre to sanction the full allocated quantity urgently and direct the distribution companies to distribute the allocated quantity at the earliest so as to mitigate the current crisis.
