Android 17 Beta 3 Adds Dedicated Volume Controls for AI Assistants

Google just released its Android 17 Beta 3 update to compatible devices. It comes with a handful of new helpful changes to how your devices handle everyday tasks. One of the best new functionalities in the new Android version solves a very common problem with virtual assistants. If you use Gemini or another smart AI assistant, you know it can sometimes respond in a very loud voice, depending on your device’s media volume. However, the Android 17 Beta 3 update fixes this by bringing dedicated volume controls for AI assistants.

Android 17 Beta 3 Brings Volume Controls for AI Assistants like Gemini

Currently, Android phones or tablets group the audio for AI assistants with your music and videos. If you turn up the volume to watch any media, your AI helper also gets much louder. The new Android 17 Beta 3 update fixes this by adding dedicated volume controls for the AI assistants in the form of a slider at the bottom of the sound menu.

You can set a comfortable level using the slider for spoken answers by AI helpers and leave it there. The sound will stay the same for AI assistants, even if you crank up your favorite song later. This is especially helpful when you interact with the assistant while wearing headphones or earphones.

The feature isn’t available for all yet, but it will arrive with the stable update

Google is currently offering the new AI assistant’s audio feature to people testing the Android 17 beta version. Since Android 17 has reached the platform stability stage, this audio feature is highly likely to arrive in the final build.

You can expect to see the separate volume slider when the finished OS rolls out to everyone in the coming months, probably in June. It is a small adjustment, but it makes using voice commands much less surprising and more comfortable.
