Audubon Texas Selected for 2026 Conservation Wrangler Accelerator Program

AUSTIN— Audubon Texas today announced its Bird City Texas program has been selected for Texan by Nature’s 2026 Conservation Wrangler initiative. Bird City Texas was one of only six programs chosen throughout the state.

Bird City Texas is a community-based bird conservation program led by Audubon Texas and the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. The effort recognizes communities that actively work to prevent habitat loss and mitigate other harmful factors affecting bird populations.

“The Conservation Wrangler program is an incredible opportunity to expand our existing bird conservation work,” said Lisa Gonzalez, Audubon Texas Vice President and Executive Director. “Bird City Texas supports community-based conservation work in more than a dozen cities across the state, and we hope to see this number grow through this award. We look forward to this expanded partnership with Texan by Nature in service of building a better, more bird-friendly Texas for current and future generations.”

Conservation Wrangler awardees will receive 12-18 months of support from Texan by Nature including program management, strategic planning, marketing messaging, data gathering ana analysis, and other critical support. Projects are vetted through a rigorous selection process, and awardees must have a demonstrated track record of positive environmental, economic, and human impacts.

“This year’s Conservation Wrangler applications highlighted the extraordinary range of conservation leadership across Texas,” said Joni Carswell, President and CEO of Texan by Nature. “The selected Conservation Wranglers are driving solutions to global conservation challenges like water scarcity, biodiversity loss, soil health, and urban growth, and building replicable blueprints that go far beyond Texas’ borders. Texan by Nature’s collaboration with these projects will expand conservation efforts and deliver measurable returns statewide. We look forward to connecting their insights and strategies to conservation and business leaders in Texas and beyond.”
