Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+

We’re here to compare two very different devices. One is a large-format foldable, while the other one is quite large but it’s not a foldable. They don’t only differ in the form factor section, though, as the overall design is quite different, as are their internals. This is a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+ comparison. These are also not the latest and greatest phones from the two companies at this point, but they were up there not long ago.

As we usually do, we will first list the specs of both smartphones. Following that, we’ll talk about their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. These two devices are very different in quite a few ways, which should make this interesting. The two companies opted for notably different approaches. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+: Design

Both smartphones have a frame made out of aluminum, but they offer completely different form factors. That frame is flat on both phones, though. The Galaxy S25+ includes a display with a centered camera hole up top and thin, uniform bezels. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s cover display also has a centered display camera hole up top and thin, uniform bezels. Its main panel, on the other hand, has a display camera hole in the top-right corner.

The Galaxy S25+’s display is a bit larger than the cover display on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The main display is a whole different story, of course. Samsung’s phone is taller than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, while it’s also narrower than a folded Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It’s thicker than an unfolded Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but notably thinner than a folded Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It is also quite a bit lighter. Both phones have physical buttons on the right side, but the positioning is a bit different.

Both phones have flat backplates and notably different-looking camera islands. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold includes a squarish camera island in the top-left corner. It has two pill-shaped cutouts on the inside, horizontal ones. The Galaxy S25+, on the other hand, has three vertically aligned cameras in the top-left corner. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is IPX8 certified for water resistance. The Galaxy S25+, on the flip side, is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+: Display

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold features a foldable LTPO OLED main panel. That panel measures 6 inches, and it offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. HDR10+ is supported, while the peak brightness is 2,700 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 89%. The resolution this display offers is 2152 x 2076 pixels. The cover display measures 6.3 inches, and it’s an OLED panel. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and it’s protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The resolution here is 2424 x 1080, while the display aspect ratio is 20:9. The peak brightness is 2,700 nits.

The Samsung Galaxy S25+, on the flip side, has a 6.7-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. That display has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, HDR10+ support, and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.l The screen-to-body ratio is at around 92%. The resolution here is 3120 x 1440 pixels, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this panel.

All four of these displays are very good. They’re not only vivid but also offer good viewing angles as well. They’re all more than sharp enough and offer good touch response. The brightness is also not an issue on either of them. It would be nice to see high-frequency PWM dimming on these displays, but if you don’t have sensitive eyes, you probably won’t care much.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+: Performance

The Google Tensor G4 processor fuels the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. That is Google’s 4nm chip, and it’s paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The phone also offers UFS 3.1 flash storage support. Do note that the storage is not supported here, but you can choose between 256GB and 512GB storage options.

The Samsung Galaxy S25+ is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s 3nm processor. That chip is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. UFS 4.0 flash storage is also supported, but it’s not expandable. Samsung does offer 256GB and 512GB storage options of this phone, though.

The performance is not something that should worry you. These two devices to this day offer really good performance overall. Day-to-day use is not a problem whatsoever. Both are quite snappy and responsive, though the Galaxy S25+ is a bit faster in direct comparison. It’s also a phone that does better with demanding games, though both do a good job in that regard. If you’re not planning to run very demanding games, both phones will do a great job.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+: Battery

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold includes a 4,650mAh battery, while the Galaxy S25+ includes a 4,900mAh unit. Many of you would guess that the Galaxy S25+ has better battery life based on the capacity alone, and you’re not wrong. The Galaxy S25+ does offer better battery life, as we were able to get about an hour – an hour and a half of extra screen-on-time on average. That’s not a huge difference, but it sure is notable.

It will also depend on how you use your phones, of course. If you use the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s cover display a lot more than the main one, that difference will be notably smaller. Neither phone offers great battery life, though. These are okay numbers, but nowhere near the very best battery lfie phones on the market. Neither of these two phones uses silicon-carbon tech, so their battery capacities are not that high.

Google’s handset supports 21W wired, 7.5W wireless, and bypass charging. The Samsung Galaxy S25+, on the other hand, supports 45W wired, 15W wireless (Qi2 ready), and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold can be fully charged in about an hour and 35 minutes, while the Galaxy S25+ can get there in about an hour. Neither phone ships with a charger.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy S25+: Cameras

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold features three cameras on the back. It has a 48-megapixel main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, 1/2.0-inch sensor size, dual pixel PDAF, and OIS. The second camera is a 10.5-megapixel ultrawide unit with an f/2.2 aperture, 1/3.4-inch sensor size, and PDAF support. The last camera is a 10.8-megapixel periscope telephoto unit with an f/1.7 aperture, 1/3.2-inch sensor size, dual pixel PDAF, OIS, and 5x optical zoom.

The Samsung Galaxy S25+, on the flip side, has three cameras on the back as well. It has a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, 1/1.56-inch sensor size, dual pixel PDAF, and OIS. The second camera is a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit with an f/2.2 aperture, 1/2.55-inch sensor size, and a 120-degree FoV. The last camera is a 10-megapixel telephoto unit with an f/2.4 aperture, 1/3.94-inch sensor size, PDAF, OIS, and 3x optical zoom.

Neither of these two phones will win any photography awards. They offer alright camera performance, but nowhere near the best camera smartphones out there. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold does tend to provide more contrasty images, while the Galaxy S25+ loves to crank up the saturation at times. The images look good during the day, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold does a better job at night time. Secondary cameras are not exactly impressive. The telephoto one does a better job in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s case, while the ultrawide performance is a toss-up.

    Audio

You will find stereo speakers inside both of these smartphones. They’re slightly louder on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but the difference is not that big at all. The sound output quality is good from both phones.

There is no audio jack on either of the two phones. You can hook up your wired headphones to their type-C ports, though, if you want. Alternatively, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold supports Bluetooth 5.3, while the Galaxy S25+ offers Bluetooth 5.4 support.
