The Android 17 QPR2 update could be just around the corner according to some theories being tossed around by Android users on Reddit. Google’s QPR updates otherwise known as the quarterly updates that are sent out to the company’s Pixel devices, are sent out every few months. For instance, the last quarterly update was Android 17 QPR1, and Google rolled that out to compatible Pixel devices back on September 15 alongside the latest Pixel drop at that time. Before that was stable Android 17 update in June, and before that was the quarterly update with a Pixel drop for Android 16 in March.
The next quarterly update, which will be Android 17 QPR2, would be expected to drop for Pixel owners sometime in December. This follows Google’s typical quarterly release schedule for these types of software updates. And in between, it pushes out the smaller security updates on a monthly basis. Sometimes these updates include a tweak or two to the features. But for the most part, they’re about stability and bug/security fixes. Some users think that Google is prepping an early drop of the new QPR update though.
Google is suspected to be prepping an early push of the Android 17 QPR2 update
Android’s security updates have generally fallen on the first Tuesday of the month, as reported by Android Authority. However, if that were always the case, then Pixel owners would have had an update pushed out to their devices just a few days ago. That hasn’t happened, which has led to speculation on the Pixel subreddit that Google is instead getting ready to roll out a different kind of update.
According to these users, Google has held off on the monthly security update to instead push out the Android 17 QPR2 update early. Moving it forward from its December rollout to this month. The evidence for this theory revolves around a couple of things. First, the user points out that some of the fixes are accompanied by a “17-qpr2-next:2026-11-01” tag. It’s also pointed out that the November update includes quite a few fixes and driver adjustments that are specifically for Pixel devices. Nevertheless, there’s no guarantee that Google is going to push the Android 17 QPR2 update early, but the evidence is compelling.
