Coronation Street fans are convinced they know who put Gary Windass in a coma after he was rushed to hospital in recent scenes – but it’s not who you might think

Coronation Street fans believe they’ve figured out who landed Gary Windass in hospital.

In recent episodes, Gary’s wife Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) has been under immense stress after Gary didn’t return home from visiting his mum.

Gary’s departure followed a spat with Maria over Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty), whom Gary had secretly kissed earlier that day.

Despite rejecting Lou’s advances, the cunning Lou managed to send herself a text from Gary’s phone, making it appear as though they were having an affair. After the kiss with Lou and the argument with Maria, Gary thought it best to take some time away and visit his mum.

However, Maria and the rest of Gary’s family are unaware that he is currently in hospital in a coma. The circumstances leading to his hospitalisation have yet to be revealed, but it’s evident something dramatic occurred, reports Leicestershire Live.

In Wednesday’s episode (July 2), Maria was still frantic about Gary’s whereabouts – particularly as it was Liam’s (Charlie Wrenshall) birthday and Gary hadn’t contacted him.

Meanwhile, Gary remained alone in hospital in a coma. His condition suddenly worsened, prompting doctors to rush in to assist him and later decided to contact his next of kin.

While some fans suspect Lou may be involved in Gary’s hospitalisation, other viewers think another resident of the cobbles put him there in a surprising twist.

Speculation is rife among Coronation Street fans, with one Facebook user sharing their doubts about Lou, saying: “I think Lou is a red herring and she has nothing to do with Gary being in a coma. It’s got to be someone else.”

Instead, some fans think newcomer Theo Silverton, played by James Cartwright, could be the culprit. The character has already showcased his violent streak and troubled personality.

“My money is on Theo! We know he’s violent and has some issues…” one viewer wrote. Another agreed, “Good thought!” while a third chimed in, “Wouldn’t surprise me if it was Theo.”

Theo joined the show earlier this year as Todd’s new love interest, played by Gareth Pierce. However, their relationship has been marked by turmoil.

In a recent episode, Theo issued a disturbing warning to James Bailey, played by Jason Callender, after discovering James had attempted to kiss Todd.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
