OnePlus 15’s Ceramic Frame to Be Four Times Stronger Than Titanium

OnePlus 15’s Ceramic Frame to Be Four Times Stronger Than Titanium

Recent reports suggest that the upcoming OnePlus 15 will take a different approach to its design and features. The device could focus on raw performance over certain other aspects. Previous leaks have pointed to some potential downgrades in the camera department, for instance. However, a new report from reliable tech tipster Digital Chat Station suggests the phone’s build quality will not be compromised, as its frame will boast a ceramic coating up to 4x more resistant than titanium.

OnePlus 15 tipped to adopt a ceramic frame for ultimate durability

The tipster already had a hands-on of a OnePlus 15 unit. They were able to confirm that its body will feature a new ceramic coating on its middle frame. This is a significant detail, as the tipster claims this material is four times stronger than titanium. This choice stands out in the current market, where several premium phones have adopted titanium frames to improve strength while keeping weight down. A ceramic coating, likened to “tempered pottery,” could offer an even higher level of durability.

For reference, the iPhone Air, which has a titanium frame, passed JerryRigEverything’s extreme durability tests with flying colors. This is impressive considering the handset’s ultra-thin body. So, if the leak is true, you can expect an even higher level of durability in the OnePlus 15.

The report also offers some additional details about the design and finish of the OnePlus 15. According to the post, the OnePlus 15 will feature a larger, rounded, and flat display with even thinner bezels than those on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The phone will also reportedly include a new desert-themed color with a high-quality texture. This particular finish would be inspired by the movie DUNE.

Overall, these leaks suggest the OnePlus 15 is charting a new course. The phone appears to be prioritizing a sturdy build and top-tier performance to stand out in the competitive flagship market while reevaluating its approach to the camera experience.

    Expected key specs

This focus on a stronger build seems to be part of a broader strategy. The OnePlus 15 will be a performance powerhouse, with rumors pointing to a top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. It would also have a smooth 165Hz OLED display and a massive 7,000mAh battery.

However, these high-end specs may come with a tradeoff. Previous reports have indicated that the phone’s camera system could see some changes, including a smaller 3x telephoto lens and a possible downgrade to the main sensor. The company is also reportedly ending its long-standing partnership with Hasselblad in favor of its own in-house image processing brand, “DetailMax.” That said, this would be in favor of offering an aggressive price tag to compete against other flagship phones.
