Details of the PS6 launch date have yet to surface in any meaningful capacity, and it’ll reportedly stay that way for the foreseeable future, because it looks like Sony hasn’t quite yet decided on when the console is going to launch. Several rumors have come up in the past about when Sony is likely release the new console. Initially, rumors began circulating that it might release the console in 2027 or 2028. Both potential launch years continued to circulate following the continuation of the memory shortages.
As it turns out, Sony isn’t quite sure when the release of the PS6 will be. The company hasn’t decided on when the best time is to launch the PS6, and so it hasn’t set a date for that.
Sony’s CEO confirms that it hasn’t decided on a PS6 launch date, citing issues with the memory shortage
The memory shortage has been the driving factor for many challenges in the consumer electronics market for the past several months, from rising costs on the RAM that companies use to make other products, to the rising cost of RAM for consumers, to the higher-priced GPUs and consoles.
It’s also apparently a driving factor in Sony’s decision to hold off on setting a launch date for the PS6. Sony’s CEO has reportedly confirmed that the company has not yet set a date, noting several times that the RAM crisis has played a role in Sony’s choice to sit back and watch things unfold first. “We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices, so we would like to really observe and follow the situation. Looking at the current circumstances, the memory price is also expected to be very high [in] FY 2027, because there will still be a shortage of supply. So under that assumption, we must think carefully what we will do,” Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki said.
