Tamil Nadu’s recently constituted Revenue Augmentation Committee, chaired by economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia, to suggest measures for augmenting the State’s revenue position, held a Consultative Meeting with Trade and Industry Associations, and Public Finance Experts in Chennai on Thursday.
As statement from the finance department said the Chairman of the Committee noted that augmenting the State’s Own Tax and Non-Tax revenues calls for the continued support of all stakeholders, and that the ground-level insights and practical experience shared in these consultations were of great value to the Committee.
The suggestions received would be examined together with the inputs already received from the various revenue-generating departments of the State, he added.
Industry stakeholders told businessline that efficient tax administration including the use of digital technologies and strong governance measures to reduce leakages emerged as the key asks from their side.
Other important revenue levers such as guideline value rationalisation and FSI increases were also discussed.
Later in the day, the Committee also held consultations with domain experts, including representatives of multilateral agencies and academic institutions, who shared their perspectives on revenue augmentation measures.
Suggestions received from the public through e-mail will also be duly considered as part of the Committee’s ongoing deliberations, the statement added.
