The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is the crown jewel of Samsung’s foldable collection. It’s the company’s first tri-fold device, and it’s also very expensive. Well, that didn’t prevent one YouTuber from trying to upgrade its battery capacity himself… by using the HONOR Magic V6’s battery.
Yes, you read that right. Before we get to it, do note that the Galaxy Z TriFold uses a 5,600mAh Li-Ion battery, while the HONOR Magic V6 offers considerably more capacity with its 6,660mAh silicon-carbon battery. And no, this was not a direct swap or anything like that.
A YouTuber upgraded the Galaxy Z TriFold’s battery capacity by 71%
The entire video he published on YouTube is embedded below, and it has a duration of over half an hour. It includes an explanation of why he did it, the purchase process, and so on and so forth.
Before we get into it, do note that the video was sponsored by HONOR, so why not do it? He did have a mishap in the process and managed to destroy one unit, but that did not prevent him from finishing the process after acquiring another Galaxy Z TriFold.
This undertaking required quite a bit of work. It was not a direct replacement at all, and he needed to print out some 3D parts to make everything fit, amongst other things.
The HONOR Magic V6’s battery was used, and the final product offers a 9,600mAh battery pack
At the end of the day, it was a success. The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold includes a 5,600mAh battery by default. The modified unit has a 9,600mAh battery, which means that it has 71% more battery capacity.
This was a fun little project, and obviously a good advertisement for HONOR. It is not something you should try to do, though, that’s for sure. It was a costly experiment, and it does require quite a bit of technical knowledge, amongst other things. Plus, you never know if it will work properly following the change, thermal issues come to mind.
If you’d like to see the whole, gruesome process, watch the entire YouTube video; it’s quite fun.
