The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founded by actor-politician (late) Vijaykanth has joined the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu to fight in the upcoming Assembly elections. This was announced by the party’s general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth after meeting DMK president MK Stalin on Thursday.
This could strengthen Chief Minister Stalin’s bid to retain power, while the AIADMK-BJP coalition could lose some of the strong loyalists of Vijaykanth.
This is first time the DMDK is aligning with the DMK since it’s formation. It had earlier alliances with the AIADMK and the BJP.
After meeting Stalin at the DMK headquarters, Premalatha told reporters that, as everyone had anticipated, the alliance with the DMK has taken place.
