United States President Donald Trump landed in Shannon with a strong police presence hours after a suspicious package was found at his Irish golf resort.

Air Force One landed at the West of Ireland airport on Thursday, January 22, less than 24 hours after a security alert at his Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, Co Clare was lifted and the package was deemed safe.

The alarm was raised at the resort on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from local gardai and Defence Forces at Trump’s resort.

It’s understood that the alert was initiated after the delivery of an envelope suspected to contain a powder substance.

Gardai were already on high alert due to the visit of Trump’s 42-year-old son Eric Trump, 42.

The US president made the stopover at Shannon, landing hours after departing Zurich. He had earlier this week given a speech at the Work Economic Forum’s Davos Summit in Switzerland.

At a signing event held by Mr Trump at Davos on Thursday, he said the group had the “chance to be one of the most consequential bodies ever created”, and said he was “honoured” to be its chairman.
