The majority of smartphones these days come with multiple cameras. However, most of the time, manufacturers tend to focus on one camera and outfit it with the best-possible sensor. The rest typically feel like an afterthought. However, that won’t be the case with the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro, where the latest rumors claim it will pack dual 200MP cameras.

Xiaomi 18 Pro to feature dual 200MP cameras

According to a post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, they claim that the Xiaomi 18 Pro could feature dual 200MP cameras. We should point out that Digital Chat Station themselves don’t explicitly call it the Xiaomi 18 Pro, but the comments seem to suggest that it is the phone the tipster is talking about.

That being said, we should note that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max models came with a triple camera setup. The rumor that the Xiaomi 18 Pro sporting dual cameras doesn’t mean the third has been dropped. But rather, it could be that Xiaomi simply did not bother to upgrade the third camera’s sensors.

For context, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max had triple 50MP cameras. This means that for the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, the third camera will most likely be in the 50MP range. This is just speculation on our end, but we highly doubt Xiaomi will downgrade the third camera’s sensor.

What else can we look forward to?

This isn’t the first time we heard that camera upgrades were coming to the Xiaomi 18 series. But what else can we look forward to? So far, based on the rumors, the phones could feature a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It will also support wireless charging and boast “high-standard” waterproof protection.

We haven’t heard anything about bumping the screen size, so based on last year’s models, we could be looking at 6.3-inches and 6.9-inches for the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max respectively. As for their chipset of choice, that’s where it gets a bit exciting. Xiaomi is rumored to be among the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

This isn’t just an upgrade in clockspeed. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is also Qualcomm’s first chipset built on TSMC’s 2nm process. This means we can expect not only better performance, but also improved efficiency.
