The Nest Mini and a handful of other older model smart speakers from Google are on the path to receiving a firmware update that will, among other things, help improve the audio of the speakers so that music and other audio entertainment sounds better. This is of course but one change, with the firmware update adding more improvements.
As of right now the firmware update is reportedly being tested within the Google Home Preview Program, and it’s being tested on the Google Home, Google Home Mini, Nest Mini, and Nest Audio smart speakers. While testing is currently going on, Google is reportedly going to roll this out to more users sometime after the testing period is over. Although, there is no mention of how long the testing period is, or how long of a wait there will be before it rolls out to more users. As of right now, only those who have signed up for the Google Home Preview Program have access to this firmware update.
The firmware update hitting the Nest Mini and other speakers will improve smart home controls
Improved audio is not the only thing users will be able to expect once this firmware is installed on their speakers. The update will also add improvements to smart home controls, volume controls, media streaming, device setup, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Google also says that the update will improve the overall performance and stability.
Additionally, there will be another update coming out in October that will reportedly introduce improvements to Gemini for Home and the Google Home app. Google doesn’t specify what any of these changes will actually do for the user, other than making it sound like things will just work better. This update will breathe a little more life into Google’s older smart speakers, following Google’s announcement of the new models on the way, and the discontinuation of the Nest Mini and Nest Audio.
