Inspiring Campers with Science and Summer Fun!

A symphony of pealing laughter, buzzing bugs, and rumbling thunder, marked the start of Summer Camp at the Randall Davey Audubon Center.

More than 135 campers, with binoculars in hand, explored our Wildlife Garden looking for birds, hiked through our pinyon-juniper woodland, examined macro-invertebrates in the Santa Fe River, and investigated animal skulls up in our ponderosa forest. Notable animal sightings include a vibrant male Western Tanager, a myriad of whizzing hummingbirds, nesting Western Bluebirds in the orchard, a garter snake in the river, and glimpses on our wildlife camera of New Mexico black bear, gray fox, and mountain lion!

Our community partners from the Santa Fe Raptor Center, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the Santa Fe Watershed Association, and the Master Gardeners dropped by to share their knowledge and resources to help make this year’s camp experience as positive and informational as possible.

With several more weeks to go, we’re prepared for even more exciting animal sightings, camp guests, and summer fun!

Remember, you don’t have to be a camper to have fun at the Randall Davey Audubon Center. Join us every Saturday at 8:30 for our free, guided bird walks. Families can also drop by our free Nature Story Time the last Friday of every month 10:30-11:15 for stories and crafts! Check out more events here.
