We’ve all commented on an Instagram post every now and then. But then sometimes you make a typo, or say something in the heat of the moment that you regret. So, instead of deleting it, Instagram is now giving users up to 15 minutes to edit their comments.
In a post on Threads, the official Instagram account revealed that users now have up to 15 minutes to edit a comment. This is a huge change from before, where users were unable to edit comments they make. Users could edit the captions of their Instagram posts, but not for comments.
This is a big deal because it means users can now go back and edit typos or add more context. As long as it’s within the 15 minute window. However, note that comments that have been edited will be marked with a gray edited tag. This will let others know that the comment was edited. However, there is no way for users to see the original comment, unless they happened to see it before it was edited.
This is something we’ve seen in other Meta owned apps. This includes WhatsApp, where messages that were edited also show an edited tag, and where users cannot see the previous original message.
Just part of the improvements to Instagram
Instagram has been around for a while so it’s natural to see new features being added. This shouldn’t be surprising as Instagram has to compete with other platforms like TikTok. Just recently, Instagram announced that it will be introducing AI effects to voice notes. It’s a bit of a novel feature, but seeing as how AI is all the rage these days, it’s to be expected.
But this could be only the beginning. According to the rumors, Instagram is working on an AI feature called “Create My Likeness.” This will allow users to generate their own images or videos based on their appearance via text prompts. In any case, the ability to edit your Instagram comments should be rolling out as we speak.
If you don’t see it yet, don’t worry as it should eventually make its way to you.
