Colson Smith has been inundated with messages of support after he shared a glimpse into his first day in his new job – just weeks after leaving Coronation Street.

Coronation Street’s Colson Smith has received an outpouring of support after offering fans a sneak peek at his new gig following his departure from the ITV soap.

In May, viewers were left heartbroken when his character Craig Tinker fell victim to a vicious assault by baddie Mick Michaelis (played by Joe Layton).

While he may be taking a break from television screens, Colson is diving into a fresh challenge as he joins the team at BBC Radio Leeds.

He broke the news last month, sparking excitement among listeners eager to tune in. This weekend, the 26-year-old actor shared an image of himself embarking on this latest chapter since leaving Weatherfield behind.

Grinning broadly in the radio studio and giving a double thumbs-up to the camera, he captioned the moment: “Day 1, on the mic. First day as a presenter on BBC Radio, covering across Yorkshire!

“A huge Thank you to those that joined me! Same time and place next week! See you then.”

The comments section of the post quickly filled with messages, with many congratulating him on his new position, reports Leicestershire Live.

One fan expressed: “Great listen and loved the music. So well done. I’ve downloaded it.” Another penned: “Loved it . You were a natural. Someone offer this lad his own show.”

Someone else wrote: “Loved the show Colson . You smashed it.” Meanwhile, another added: “Amazing start to your radio career … listened to half live and then will listen to the rest on the commute to work tomorrow.”

His former Coronation Street colleague, Ellie Leach, also commended the ITV actor, stating: “Proud of you [sic].”

Colson first graced the cobbles of Coronation Street as a teenager in 2011 and quickly became a beloved character during his 14-year tenure on the show.

Discussing his departure on Good Morning Britain, he expressed: “I’ll always feel emotional [about leaving]. I will always miss the place. It was my home. It was my family. Those people, they helped me grow up.

“It’s very different having done something for 14 years to now know that you’re not doing it anymore, and I’m excited to go out and have some fun. I’m excited, it feels like a new chapter of my life starting.”

Colson isn’t the only familiar face bidding adieu to the soap this year, as viewers recently said their goodbyes to Sue Cleaver and Helen Worth.

Reports also suggest that Daniel Brocklebank will be exiting after an 11-year stint on the cobbles.

Coronation Street is available to watch on ITVX.
