Memory Prices Just Got Bad Enough to Cancel an Entire Phone Launch

Memory Prices Just Got Bad Enough to Cancel an Entire Phone Launch

Nothing has confirmed that the CMF Phone 3 Pro will not be launching this year.

Nothing’s co-founder, Akis Evangelidis, has confirmed on X that the company will not be launching the CMF Phone 3 Pro this year, and even went on to say that there will be no new CMF phone this year. However, the company is indeed still working on a successor.

While most of us likely know why this is the case, Evangelidis did confirm that it is due to memory prices right now. We’ve already seen quite a few budget and mid-range smartphones get huge price increases this year, as that segment is being hit the hardest. Nothing feels that it’s better than sitting it out, and likely hoping prices go down in the next year or so.

Evangelidis did say that there is still “a lot to look forward to from CMF for this year”. With several new products launching this year, “as well as some entirely new categories”.

Finally, he also teased that the “smartphone launch season at Nothing isn’t over yet”. So there’s more to come from Nothing as well.

    RAMpocalypse takes its first victim

It seems that the RAMpocalypse has claimed its first victim in terms of canceling product launches. It’s already claimed victims when it comes to raising prices, but this is the first one we know of that has been cancelled.

It’s an interesting move for Nothing, and likely the better move. The CMF brand is a fairly cheap and inexpensive product lineup, not to say that these are bad products, but they cost a big part of their success. The CMF Phone 2 Pro last year sold for $279 in the US. And if we had to guess, the Phone 3 Pro likely would have seen at least a $100 price increase or more. Motorola has upped all of their Moto G phones by $100 already, here in the US. And we’re expecting flagships to hit that price increase as we get into TechTember, too.
