Meta has announced new updates coming to its video editing app, Edits, including an AI assistant and a desktop version. It previewed these upcoming additions at a creator event in L.A. Beyond these two, there’s also a new “Beta” tab, which, as the name implies, is for experiments. It’ll give creators early access to certain features that are still in development.
Meta’s Edits app is getting an AI assistant to help creators generate content ideas
The upcoming AI assistant will help creators analyze Instagram insights and suggest ideas for their content. It’ll use creators’ Instagram data, like their views and video retention insights, to show what’s working and why. It’ll also recommend trending audio to boost reach. By offering creators content ideas, Meta, in a way, is encouraging more frequent posting, which could boost user engagement.
Another bonus of offering a built-in AI is that Meta eliminates the need for creators to look for other AI platforms for content ideas and to understand performance. To recall, Meta launched a similar AI assistant tool for creators on Facebook back in 2025. That said, the competition isn’t very far off, though. YouTube and TikTok also offer similar AI tools to creators for almost similar purposes.
Early access to experimental features
Moving along, the desktop version of Edits will allow it to better compete with CapCut, which, as we know already, offers a desktop version. This will give creators finer control and a bigger workspace for advanced editing. Additionally, creators will be able to sync their workflows between mobile and desktop.
Then there’s the new “Beta” tab, which, as said, will provide creators early access to experimental features that are in the works. This will allow creators to provide Meta with feedback. With expanded audience insights, creators can now see more detailed metrics like their audience demographic breakdown and the time of day their audience is the most engaged. These join the existing analytics, which include data like how long viewers watch a video, how many followers were gained from a specific video, and more.
Creators can now search specific topics in the Inspiration feed to find Reel templates others are making around a given trend or idea. They can also create multiple versions of a single piece of content to test which performs best before publishing.

AI assistant feature currently in testing
Lastly, Instagram didn’t share how many users Edits has, but it does say that content made with the app gets a 10% higher save rate and 2% higher reshare rate compared to content not made on Edits. Interestingly, more than half of people watching Reels on Instagram see Edits-created content daily.
The AI assistant feature is currently being tested with the attendees of the creator event. Meanwhile, the desktop version of Edits is apparently coming soon. The rest of the features are now available to everyone. You can get the Edits app on iOS and Android.
