Motorola Razr Wide Fold leak reveals design and specs

Following Samsung’s lead, another tech giant appears ready to launch a new widescreen foldable, and this one has some serious history behind it. Apple’s iPhone Duo marks that company’s entry into the foldable market, but Motorola isn’t really entering the market. The company has long made clamshell foldables, and after expanding into the book-style market earlier this year, it may now be planning to enter the widescreen foldable market — and today we’re getting our best preview yet.

We’ve known about Motorola’s widescreen foldable intentions for a while now. Those intentions are now actually starting to take shape with the Razr Wide Fold. We’ve seen leaked sketches and a briefly teased silhouette of the device in the past, and a new set of Android Headlines reports are now giving us a look at the device’s physical mock-ups and specs.

The renders match what we’ve been expecting, while the specs paint a clearer picture of how the upcoming device could stand against the likes of the Z Fold 8, iPhone Duo, and the Xiaomi 18 Fold. From the outside, the upcoming device appears to be very similar to its counterparts mentioned earlier. It’s stubby, with an expansive front screen that opens up into a landscape-oriented display that could be great for consuming content, multitasking, and gaming. The rear features a camera setup that looks similar to what we’ve seen in early sketches.

From the looks of it, the Motorola widescreen foldable will have much rounder edges, similar to the iPhone Duo and unlike the Z Fold 8’s sharp and angular aesthetic. The new foldable will also reportedly be smaller and thicker.

The Z Fold 8 measures in at 9.7mm when folded, while the Razr Wide Fold is expected to measure in at 12.6mm. It’s also expected to feature a smaller 6.92-inch inner display, compared to the Z Fold 8’s 7.6-inch display.

The extra thickness, complete with a smaller overall frame, should result in a relatively similar weight profile to the Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo. This gives us a pretty good idea of what the upcoming device could feel like in hand, but physical mock-ups only tell us so much. They don’t reveal much about the display itself, or how Motorola might be using that extra bulk. That’s where the accompanying spec leak starts filling in the blanks.

The 6.92-inch inner display will reportedly be an OLED panel with a 1,28 x 2,364 pixel resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. The cover display would reportedly measure 4.97 inches with a 1,732 x 1,140 pixel resolution. Compared to the Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Duo, Motorola’s approach offers less screen real estate, but a much faster refresh rate.

The Razr Wide Fold’s extra thickness might also be helping Motorola squeeze in a decently big battery. For reference, the Z Fold 8 features a 4,800mAh component. Motorola could give the Razr Wide Fold 5,000mAh dual-cell battery, alongside USB-PD wired charging and 25W Qi2 wireless charging.

Considering the smaller screens, the 5,000mAh battery should offer plenty of screen time, complete with efficiency upgrades expected with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. The chip will work alongside 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That’s a conservative option, and no other storage or RAM options were shared. What’s not conservative, however, are the camera specs.

The Moto Razr Wide Fold could boast a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera, paired with a 32MP main display selfie camera and a 32MP cover display selfie camera. On paper, those camera specs are already better than the Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Duo.

The upcoming Motorola foldable could feature IP48 or IP49 water/dust resistance ratings, complete with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Android 17 out of the box.

The Motorola Razr Wide Fold is expected in PANTONE Coriander and Dark Botanical Garden finishes. The company is reportedly targeting a mid-December launch.
