Pixel Weather App’s Icons Get a Bold New Redesign

Pixel Weather App’s Icons Get a Bold New Redesign

Google’s Pixel Weather app is getting a major update, one that gives a new design to weather icons. This brings new bold colors, accented by “clean outlines” to the weather icons. There’s a splash screen, where Google explains that weather condition icons have been updated for “improved contrast and clarity.” It adds that the new icons are now more accessible, especially for those with low vision.

Pixel Weather app’s icons get a new contrast-heavy design

As spotted by Android Authority, the new Pixel Weather app update with version 1.1.20251230.875325825 brings redesigned weather icons that add more color. Google is letting go of the gradient designs. That said, the general shapes of different weather icons remain as is, with only colors seeing a change. So, recognizing the new change shouldn’t be hard for users, even with white backgrounds.

Besides the changes to the icons, the Pixel Weather app’s other UI elements also seem to be getting the taste of the new higher-contrast approach. This new look and the updated icons are apparently showing up across the app, including the app’s widget.

New buttons to manage the saved locations list

Beyond the graphical changes in the app, there’s something for those looking for functional improvements. In the current state, to manage the list of saved locations in the Pixel Weather app, you’ll have to long-press and drag them around. And while that’s not going anywhere, the latest update shows that Google is adding buttons for users. They can just tap the up or down arrows to move the city within the list, or remove it entirely.

While this Pixel-exclusive app continues to live and see improvements, Android’s Weather app is going away. Last month, there were reports of Google replacing the full-screen Weather report interface on Android devices with generic web search results. This shows up when users tap on the Weather homescreen shortcut.
