Plex, the popular personal media-streaming platform, has announced that its lifetime subscription price is tripling. The company has made this official via a public announcement post on its website, where it says the lifetime option for the Plex Pass will jump from its current price of $249.99 to $749.99. This price change will come into effect from July 1st, meaning you still have around six weeks to get it at the current price.
Plex is tripling its lifetime subscription price from $250 to a steep $750
Plex, on its website, says that in the past it has considered removing the lifetime Plex Pass option altogether, considering that recurring subscriptions help it sustain long-term development. However, it didn’t proceed with the idea since it believes it’s still a valuable option for its community. So, instead of retiring it, Plex is tripling its lifetime subscription fee. The new price, as per the company, “reflects the real, ongoing value of the software we’re committed to building and maintaining for years to come.”
All current lifetime Plex Pass holders will continue to have access to all benefits and perks. Nothing is changing. Monthly and annual subscription pricing for Plex Pass and Remote Watch Pass will also remain unchanged. This isn’t a first price hike, though. Plex has raised the price of its lifetime subscription in the past. The price jumped from $120 to $250 in March 2025.
The price hike will take effect on July 1st
Besides the price hike, Plex also detailed a roadmap of what’s to come. This includes grouping by show and the ability to automatically download new episodes. Support for Playlist creation and editing in the mobile apps. It’s also working on audio enhancements like boosting dialog and normalizing loudness.
The company says all server and library management features that are currently available on app.plex.tv will be added to the mobile apps and TV apps where it makes sense. It’s also working on IPv6 support. Plex says these features will improve the experience, and it’ll continue to expand the features.
