A total of 40 lakh households have been solarised under the government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Friday.

The scheme is turning citizens from power consumers to power producers, the Minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said in a post on X.

“Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, 40 lakh households have now been empowered with rooftop solar under @PMSuryaGhar: Muft Bijli Yojana,” Joshi said.

He said the scheme is also enabling families to reduce electricity expenses, benefit from government subsidies and move towards zero electricity bills.

Launched in February 2024, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) aims to install rooftop solar systems in one crore households by March 2027.
