    Release Details and Key Specs

In big 2026, smartphone designs rarely surprise us anymore. However, HONOR is trying a different approach with its upcoming device. After showing it for the first time earlier this year, the company just confirmed a release timeframe for the HONOR Robot Phone, a flagship smartphone that features a motorized, mechanical gimbal camera arm on top of its chassis. Plus, additional leaks paint a clearer picture of the HONOR Robot Phone’s tech specs.

HONOR’s CEO, Li Jian, confirmed on Weibo that the device is complete and scheduled for a retail launch in China during the third quarter (Q3) of this year. Eager buyers can already place offline reservations, and HONOR plans to display the hardware publicly at the World AI Conference (WAIC) on July 18.

How the Honor Robot Phone’s mechanical gimbal camera works

Instead of relying entirely on software to stabilize video or track a subject, the HONOR Robot Phone uses a physical titanium alloy 4D gimbal system. According to leaked specs, this motorized neck can deploy in 0.8 seconds, allowing the camera to physically rise, tilt, and rotate up to 360 degrees.

By handling the tracking mechanically, the device aims to eliminate the need for bulky external stabilizers. For the camera setup, HONOR is using a 200MP main sensor on the moving arm. There are also a 50MP ultra-wide lens and a second 200MP telephoto camera. Plus, the brand partnered with professional camera manufacturer ARRI to integrate film-grade color profiles into the software.

    AI handling the background tasks

To demonstrate how the phone handles daily software tasks alongside its robotic hardware, HONOR’s Chief AI Officer, Huang Fei, shared a teaser on Weibo.

In the demonstration, Fei used voice commands to interact with the phone’s YOYO AI assistant. Rather than opening multiple menus, the assistant managed several processes in the background. It adjusted screen brightness, turned on an anti-motion sickness display setting, set an alarm, and booked a taxi. The AI only requested a quick tap from the user at the very end to finalize the ride details, showing a push toward more automated, hands-free software.

Under the hood, the HONOR Robot Phone carries standard high-end specifications. It features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a 1.5K flat display with reduced bezels, and support for 120W wired fast charging.

    Not for slim-phone lovers

Lastly, a hands-on video (via TECH INFO) offers a closer look at the device and its dimensions. It’s pretty clear that achieving a slim profile was not HONOR’s priority when developing this handset.
