The revised prices on 137 anti-cancer drugs will kick in on Monday, bringing annual savings of over ₹3,500 crore, said a note from the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
Drug companies making these medicines were forced to revise prices after the Centre capped trade margins on these drugs at 30 per cent, under the Supreme Court’s watch.
Giving the latest update, the NPPA said on Saturday, about 76 pharmaceutical companies have revised MRPs for 1225 anti-cancer formulations, covering 121 drugs. A reduction has been reported in 1031 formulations of anti-cancer medicines, with 600 brands reporting above 50 per cent reduction, and the highest reduction being 96.45 per cent, the NPPA said.
In fact, it said, about 10-15 drugs (of the 137) were yet to be launched in India, and the Trade Margin Rationalisation (TMR) will be applicable to them when they are brought into the country. According to a source, of 1330 updated prices, about 203 brand prices remain unchanged.
“Every retailer, dealer, hospital and institution is required to prominently display the revised MRP list of anti-cancer medicines on their websites and in their premises,” the NPPA said.
