The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is coming, Samsung’s next-gen flagship foldable smartphone. It is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Samsung’s new wide foldable. Quite a few information has popped up thus far, including some that we exclusively shared. We have enough information to create a solid preview article at this point, which we’ll keep updated with new information as it appears.
In this article, we’ll talk about the phone’s design, specs, price, and much more. Some information will be more limited than others, but we’ll do our best to give you a clear image of what’s coming. Most of the information will be based on rumors/leaked information, while some educated guesses could be sprinkled in there.
This article will be regularly updated with new information on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (this is a preview article) — both official teasers and credible leaks, rumors, and insider claims — as it becomes available in the run-up to the release of the upcoming Android smartphone. This is the initial publishing of the article; updates are coming.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 be released?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will probably become official in July this year. It will launch during the second Unpacked event of the year, though we still don’t know its exact launch date, albeit July 22 is rumored. London has been mentioned as the chosen city for the event. We believe it will be July based on the timing of last year’s event, so that part is probably accurate. Either way, the phone is coming in Q3, likely early Q3 2026.
What models are coming?
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is tipped to arrive in a single SoC variant, just like its predecessor. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will fuel the phone globally. In regard to RAM and storage options, the phone is tipped to arrive in 12GB and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM options, with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 cost?
According to a single rumor that popped up thus far, regarding pricing, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will start at $1,999. That will be the price for the 256GB base storage model. The 512GB storage version will cost $2,199 in the US, while the 1TB model will set you back $2,499. So, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 won’t be cheap by any means, but it’s expected to be on the same level as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Well, unless things change in the last moment due to rising memory costs.
What will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 look like?
We’ve exclusively shared the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 via CAD-based renders. That is basically the final design of the phone. More leaks are expected in the coming weeks/months, of course, but thus far, this is the best look you’ll get. You can see that design in a handful of renders in the gallery below, while a video variant of the leak is also available, in case you prefer that format.
It’s very similar to its predecessor
You will immediately notice that the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s design won’t exactly change much compared to the current-gen model. In fact, it’s difficult to tell it apart from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The overall form factor remains the same, and the design as well, right down to the camera island style on the back. The camera hole on the cover display will be centered up top and smaller than the one on the main display. The one on the main display will sit a bit to the right, about halfway between the middle of the screen and the right edge. Both of those displays will be flat, by the way.
The bezels around both panels will be rather thin and uniform. The main display will have raised bezels for protection during folding. The phone will retain rather sharp edges and physical buttons on the right-hand side. The power/lock button sits below the volume up and down keys. The frame will be mostly flat, while it will be made out of aluminum, as was the case on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The wobble is not going away
If we flip it around, you’ll see three vertically-aligned cameras in the top-left corner. They’ll sit on top of a pill-shaped camera island. That camera island will protrude, and so will the cameras on top of it. Yes, the phone will wobble on the table; that much is obvious. The LED flash will be placed outside the camera island, to the right. The phone’s dimensions are approximately 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm when unfolded, and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9mm when folded.
What specs will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 have?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will, according to rumors, arrive in a single SoC version. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy will fuel it. That is an overclocked version of the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. 12GB and 16GB RAM models are expected, and Samsung will probably use LPDDR5X RAM. When it comes to storage, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions are expected, with either UFS 4.0 or UFS 4.1 flash storage.
Two 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED panels will be used
The phone will have two displays, of course. The main panel will be an 8-inch foldable panel, while the other will be a 6.5-inch display. Both of them will be 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED displays and LTPO panels. Samsung is expected to use dual-layer UTG (ultra-thin glass) on the main panel.
A 5,000mAh battery is rumored for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. That is still well below the competition, but notably better than what the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offered. That phone includes a 4,400mAh battery. 45W wired charging is rumored, which would also be an improvement over 25W wired charging that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers.
An upgraded ultrawide camera is tipped
Alright, what about the cameras? Well, a 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size) will be used; we’re guessing the same one as on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. A 50-megapixel ultrawide unit is rumored, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera. So a telephoto shooter may stay the same, but the ultrawide camera may get an upgrade.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to measure 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm when unfolded, and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9mm when folded.
Should you wait to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 won’t be that much different than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The jump from the Fold 6 to the Fold 7 was a lot bigger, mainly due to design reasons. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be more powerful, have a larger battery, and faster charging… plus a new ultrawide camera. Other than that, we’re not seeing major improvements, at least not thus far. Chances are that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 users won’t have much to be jealous about, but… who knows, these are just rumors after all.
