Standalone health insurer Star Health and Allied Insurance Company on Wednesday reported net profit of ₹550 crore for the quarter ended June 2026 (Q1FY27) under Ind AS Accounting Standards, a 25 per cent increase YoY. Underwriting profit for Q1FY27 was ₹111 crore compared to ₹16 crore for Q1 FY26. The company attributed it to healthy premium growth and operating efficiencies.

Healthy investment income growth driven by increased investments and higher mark-to-market gains also helped bring in good improvement in the reported PAT for the quarter.

The company recorded Gross Written Premium (GWP) of ₹4,287 crore during Q1 FY27, representing a growth of 19 per cent YoY on reported 1/N basis. On the same basis, fresh retail health GWP for the quarter stood at ₹730 crore, a 37 per cent YoY increase.

Star Health said in a statement it settled 9.6 lakh claims during Q1 FY27. The Retail Claims Settlement Ratio improved by 1 per cent and moved to 91 per cent for Q1 FY27. Persistency improved by 3 per cent YoY to 102 per cent. The company’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) improved by 12 points and stands at 65 as of June 2026.

During the quarter, the company’s proprietary digital D2C Channel contributed 16 per cent of fresh retail sales, with a YoY growth of 142 per cent; 97 per cent of fresh policies were sourced digitally.

“Our performance in the first quarter reflects the strength of our fundamentals and the consistency of our execution. Sustainable growth, driving improvement in core underwriting profitability, and sustained operating discipline have enabled us to deliver a strong start to the year,” Anand Roy, CEO & Managing Director, Star Health , said in a statement. Roy, in an earlier instance, said the standalone health insurer aims to do Gross Written Premium of ₹24,000 crore in FY27.

Nilesh Kambli, CFO, Star Health, said overall, there has been good top line and bottom line growth this quarter. Loss ratio and expense ratio, too, has shown an improvement; so it’s a robust financial result when it comes to underwriting performance. “90% of our claims are approved in less than one hour’s time. And at the time of discharge, almost around 95% is done within a three-hour period, which is quite robust for us,” he said.

As of June 30, 2026, the company had a multi-channel distribution network comprising 900+ branch offices, 8.5 lakh+ agents, 16,000+ network hospitals, and 18,500+ employees.
