Here is the Sony Xperia 1 VIII that you most likely won’t be able to buy.
Onleaks and MyMobiles have just released CAD renders of the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VIII with that radical camera redesign. It actually looks a lot more like the OnePlus 10 Pro than previous Sony smartphones.
Sony is still sticking with the rectangle design, with less rounded corners compared to what its competitors are doing these days. It also has a triple camera setup, a bit further down, on the left side. On the front, Sony is not adopting a hole-punch for the front camera, as many were hoping for. So there’s still some pretty thick bezels here.
The dimensions for the Xperia 1 VIII are 161.9 x 74.4 x 8.58mm, with the camera bump being 11.37mm, just under 3mm thicker than the rest of the body. Which is actually pretty thin in 2026. Though the phone as a whole is quite thick, in fact, it’s even thicker than its predecessor. The display will be a flat 6.5-inch display and have the same bezels as the Sony Xperia 1 VII. It is keeping its triple-camera setup, though.
When will the Sony Xperia 1 VIII launch?
Sony has typically launched the Xperia 1 series in May, with it being available in June. So we’re expecting the same sort of timeline this year. Given how late these CADs are being released, it might be a few more months down the road before we see the official announcement from Sony.
Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t sell its phones in a lot of markets these days. They’ve stopped selling in the US (even unlocked models), and it’s largely pulled out of Europe. Leading many to believe that they are only making phones to use in their movies, but the new Spider-Man movie has Peter Parker using a Galaxy Z Flip 7.
