The Xiaomi 17 series debuted last month as the brand’s newest flagship lineup. The series includes a total of three phones, and they all ship with the mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. Like always, Xiaomi reserved the Ultra model for a later date. Though not confirmed, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may arrive early, reportedly by the end of this year, in China. However, you don’t have to wait that long to know more, as a new leak sheds light on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra cameras.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra cameras leak

Prolific leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo spilled the beans on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra cameras. According to him, the upcoming flagship will feature a quad-camera setup, comprising a 50MP + 50MP + 50MP + 200MP system. He says the primary camera will feature a large sensor with support for ultra-high dynamic range. Furthermore, the periscope sensor may get a new optical technology.

While the sensor details are not out, there are speculations that the ‘ultra’ phone from Xiaomi may feature a 50MP OmniVision OV50X main sensor. This will be accompanied by a 50MP Samsung JN5 ultra-wide-angle lens, a 50MP Samsung JN5 telephoto lens, and a 200MP Samsung HPE periscope telephoto camera. It may house a 50MP OmniVision OV50M 50MP front camera.

There could be two versions

Furthermore, Digital Chat Station notes that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will arrive in two versions. The Weibo post explicitly says “two versions.” There will be no major difference in the camera setup and lens configuration. However, the top-end version will apparently include innovative camera smarts under its sleeve. There could be a few notable self-developed camera technologies on board.

Digital Chat Station previously claimed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will introduce an advanced continuous optical zoom system, combining the 200MP sensor with a multi-element periscope zoom lens. This uses a shared CMOS between focal lengths, offering smoother zoom transitions without switching cameras. We’ll know more when it launches officially.
