Samsung Linked Distributors Notifies of 80% Memory Price Hike

A recent report circulating on social media suggests Samsung’s authorized distributors are reportedly hiking the price of its memory by as much as 80%. The current memory prices are already high, following the global component shortage and rising demand from AI companies. The situation appears to be getting worse.

Samsung’s distributors report a sudden memory price hike

According to the leaked document, an authorized dealership linked to Samsung says prices for all Samsung memory products will rise by as much as 80%. What’s even worse is that the price hike applies immediately. This leaves buyers with little time to react. While the authenticity of the document remains unclear, an employee connected to the Device Solutions campus in Giheung has been mentioned as a possible source.

The timing of the notice matters because Samsung is expected to raise DRAM output by only about 5% this year. The demand for memory used in servers and AI systems is increasing at an unprecedented rate. The current supply chain remains out of capacity to serve the demand. Due to this, almost all major tech companies are hiking the prices of their memory components.

The change won’t be visible immediately, but it will be worse

Since the final product goes through multiple phases of production, the current price hike effect won’t be visible immediately to the everyday consumers. However, smaller companies and direct buyers of Samsung memory are likely to be affected first, as large orders are usually negotiated separately.

The future of the global memory market remains uncertain at the moment. Supply chain restriction is not limited to DRAM. Samsung and SK Hynix have both been linked to possible cuts in NAND production. This move comes as companies focus on more profitable products. Micron warns of a similar situation. TrendForce estimates that the memory sector could expand sharply through 2026 and 2027. If the supply remains limited like it is right now, the distributors may continue to hike the costs.
