Samsung Confirms Galaxy Z TriFold Is Done—No Explanation Given

As many of you know, a report surfaced yesterday, claiming that Samsung is winding down sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold only three months after its launch. Many decided not to believe it, but it’s true.

It’s official, the Galaxy Z TriFold is done after only three months

Samsung has just confirmed, to Bloomberg, that the Galaxy Z TriFold is no more. The company is discontinuing the phone, starting with South Korea, but other markets will most likely follow soon after. It will be discontinued in the US as well, once all available inventory is sold out.

You’d expect Samsung to give an explanation following this move, right? Well, no, that’s not happening… well, at least it has not happened thus far. The information has been confirmed to Bloomberg, but without a reason why.

Needless to say, this is a very odd move. Perhaps this was some sort of weird test that Samsung opted for, which doesn’t make much sense considering the popularity of the device. Every single restock that has happened since release has been sold out fast, basically everywhere.

A reason was not given, but we do have a good guess as to why this happened

So what gives? Well, if I had to guess, personally, I’d say it has to do with memory and storage prices. As you know, the prices have gone through the roof, and that probably raised Samsung’s expenses even more, and lowered the profit margins.

My guess is that Samsung did some quick math and realized it would be forced to raise the price of the Galaxy Z TriFold even more due to storage and memory price increases. In order to avoid backlash surrounding that move, it opted to discontinue the device. Once again, that’s just a guess on my part; it may not be the reason… or at least not the main reason.

As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is priced at $2,899. That is a lot of money, especially for a phone. Some users are obviously willing to pay for it, but with a price bump, things could change.

Another reminder, the CEO of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business recently said that the company has not yet decided whether the Galaxy Z TriFold will get a sequel. This move by Samsung, regarding the Galaxy Z TriFold, brings the future of the lineup into question even more.
