Recent discoveries point toward Samsung working on native, system-wide dark theme icons for its next software update. As first reported by SammyGuru, version 1.3.07.3791 of Samsung’s Nearby Device app includes hidden code references and preview assets for dark icon variants. The leak showcases darker designs for core stock applications, including Gallery, My Files, Messages, and the Phone dialer.
This isn’t the first time the feature has crossed Samsung’s development pipeline. Native dark icon toggles briefly appeared during early testing for One UI 8.5 before Samsung quietly pulled them from stable builds. Its sudden reappearance in production app code suggests that developers are laying the groundwork for a broader rollout in One UI 9.5 rather than abandoning the concept entirely.
Why built-in dark icons make a big difference
While Galaxy owners can currently customize their home screens using third-party launchers or Samsung’s Good Lock suite, system-level support makes a world of difference for everyday usability.
