Southeastern Sunflowers in Bloom along Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary Boardwalk

Many people visit the Sanctuary to see birds and other wildlife. But one of the most amazing sights to behold in early October, however, doesn’t have feathers. Southeastern sunflowers (Helianthus agrestis) are currently blooming by the millions at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in the wet prairie. Visitors on the 2.25-mile boardwalk can become immersed in this golden sea of sunflowers over the next few weeks until the bloom is over.

Visitors are encouraged to film or photograph this unique Florida fall occurrence, but please keep in mind that plants in the Sanctuary are protected—no picking is allowed.

Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary offers many ways to enjoy nature and is the gateway to the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America. The Blair Visitor Center and 2.25-mile boardwalk are located at 375 Sanctuary Road W. in Naples. Open daily, summer hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the last admission at 1 p.m. The Center offers a Nature Store and Cypress Cafe with many locally made products, gifts, and delicious treats. Admission is $17 for adults, $6 for kids 6-14, and free for children and Corkscrew members.
