Teardown reveals clever tricks behind Samsung’s slimmest phone yet

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is the company’s thinnest phone to date, and a teardown of the device gives us a better look at how Samsung managed to squeeze all that tech into a thinner and lighter package. Samsung gave the public a look into its methods last month when it put out a blog post on the device. In this post, the company briefly explained how it was able to achieve this design that it refers to as “beyond slim.”

A big part of Samsung’s achievement comes down to a new mounting method that allowed it to place components with precision down to 0.1mm. Samsung also likely slimmed down a few components, but overall, this really doesn’t properly visualize how things were made so slim. A Galaxy S25 Edge teardown should do a good job of showing how Samsung was able to fit all the pieces together.

A teardown of the Galaxy S25 Edge reveals where Samsung slimmed down components

If you’ve been curious to see just where exactly Samsung made this phone thinner, the teardown done by Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything on YouTube) should shed a little bit of light on the build. While much of the inside looks similar to that of Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra, Nelson’s teardown shows that Samsung does alter a few things.

For example, it’s using a thinner vibrator motor for the loudspeaker, which Nelson says “is a start” to slimming down the device. Obviously, this one change wouldn’t help Samsung shave off those extra millimeters. There are other alterations to the design, though.

It’s also mentioned that Samsung isn’t using a standalone housing for the connector pins of the 25W USB-C port. Instead, it saved space by removing the housing and having the Titanium frame act as the housing for the USB-C connector pin. Again, this is a minor change. It’s one part of a whole that allowed Samsung to fully realize its slimmest phone ever. It’s also an interesting look into Samsung’s process and into all of the steps that went into slimming down the phone.

Nelson also points out that Samsung removed a portion of the aluminum frame from the inside that would sit between the vapor chamber and the phone’s processors. Making this yet another section of the phone that Samsung removed to get the Galaxy S25 Edge down to its 5.8mm frame. All in all, this isn’t a full, step-by-step breakdown of everything Samsung went through to slim down the phone. Then again, a video like that would likely be quite long. You can view the JerryRigEverything teardown of the phone below if you want to view the whole thing.
